Need To Know - Pro-Growth Budgeting
Dear Friend,
The House reinforced its budget improvement efforts this week, passing bills to modernize the way that nonpartisan scorekeepers tally legislation and reform the budget baseline.
This move comes on the heels of the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) annual Budget and Economic Outlook report, which projected that the federal deficit will breach the trillion dollar mark for the fourth consecutive year.
To reverse this ill-fated trend, House leaders advanced the “Pro-Growth Budgeting Act of 2011,” which requires CBO to provide lawmakers with an economic impact analysis for all major legislation. Similarly, the “Baseline Reform Act of 2011” removes the pro-spending bias that currently exists in the baseline budget Congress uses as a starting point in federal budgeting.
It is past time to streamline the way Washington spends taxpayers’ money. This requires every member of Congress in a nonpartisan manner to participate in the economic challenges that the American people and the rest of their government are experiencing.
