HARPER ON BARBOUR’S STATE OF EMERGENCY

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Gregg Harper (R–Miss.) made the following comments after Governor Haley Barbour declared a State of Emergency Thursday due to the severe storm damage in the Third Congressional District.

“I commend Governor Barbour’s efforts in ensuring that all resources are made available to the local governments affected by the storm in the Third Congressional District. With the risk of additional storms, I agree with the decision to mobilize the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and I am confident they will respond in a timely manner.

“I offer my thoughts and prayers to the families and victims who have suffered loss during this traumatic time. My district and Washington offices are keeping in close communication with the Governor’s office and local officials. I will continue to work diligently to assure the communities affected have access to the available federal assistance.”

A conservative man of faith and integrity, Gregg was elected in November, 2008 to serve the citizens of Mississippi’s Third Congressional District. Soon after the election, his peers elected him as the only freshman of the Republican Steering Committee in the House of Representatives. Gregg is the only Republican freshman appointed by Republican Minority Leader John Boehner to the Committee on House Administration and also sits on the Committee on the Judiciary and the Committee on the Budget. Gregg currently resides in Pearl with his wife of 29 years, Sidney, and their two children, Livingston and Maggie, where the Harpers are active members of Crossgates Baptist church.
