“October 10, 2017 will mark the 106th National Day of Taiwan. As co-chairs of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, we would like to congratulate the people of Taiwan on this occasion and wish them a Happy Double Ten Day.

There is much to celebrate this year with regard to Taiwan’s democracy and U.S.-Taiwan relations. On September 13, members of the 2017 Taiwan Agricultural Trade Goodwill Mission signed letters of intent to purchase nearly $3 billion of U.S. agricultural products. As a result of U.S. trade in goods with Taiwan, Taiwan remains our 10th largest trading partner.

In addition to being a great friend of the United States, Taiwan contributes to peace and stability in a challenging region of the world. Taiwan is also a generous contributor to humanitarian aid efforts for natural disasters. On behalf of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, we appreciate Taiwan’s generous donation of $800,000 to the Hurricane Harvey disaster relief work.

We would like to use the occasion of Taiwan’s National Day to reaffirm the strength of the U.S.-Taiwan relationship and our continued commitment to the Taiwan Relations Act and Six Assurances. It is an honor and privilege to support this vital relationship, and we look forward to joining the people of Taiwan in celebrating their 106th National Day.”
