Caring for our kids

Dec 8, 2013 Issues: Disabilities, Elections, Health Care

Good evening--

Creating a lifetime of hope and opportunity for our most vulnerable kids is more important than subsidizing week-long political pep rallies for the Democratic and Republican parties.

This is why the House is set to vote on my bill that pays for children’s medical research with the money that the federal government currently sets aside for political conventions.

Just last week, we renamed the bill after a courageous young girl who lost her battle to cancer. It’s called the“Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act.” I had the privilege of meeting Gabriella’s family. Make no mistake: No parent ever wants to experience the heartbreaking journey that the Millers have walked through over the past few years.

This bill helps kids like Evie Horton in Mississippi, who fights with all of her strength to overcome the struggles of Spinal Muscular Atrophy. And Evie’s cousin, Reese McDonald. And the many other families who face the challenges of raising a child battling a pediatric disorder.

So let’s put kids first. Let’s pass the “Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act.”

God Bless,

Gregg Harper
Member of Congress
