Harper Urges President to Sign National Defense Authorization Act

Issues: Defense & Security

"The NDAA reflects a bipartisan agreement to prioritize equipment and training for our all-volunteer force. It is a shame that the President has opted to put our military at risk with partisan politics rather than protect those who swear an oath to protect our country. This legislation fulfills the President’s own budget request and I urge President Obama to sign the NDAA into law.”

Harper Comments on Election for Speaker

U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) offered the following statement regarding the election for Speaker of the House: "Everyone in the Republican Conference was surprised when Kevin McCarthy withdrew his name from consideration for Speaker this afternoon. I am so proud to live in Mississippi where our people have common-sense and are not misled by outside groups whose purpose is to raise money."

“Speaker Boehner has led the House with honor and integrity, and has always fought for a functional, smaller, less burdensome government. I appreciate the Speaker’s service and am grateful for the knowledge I gained from him.”

This bipartisan legislation would require the development, maintenance, and updating of an integrated national strategy to recognize and support family caregivers. The bill would bring together relevant federal agencies and others from the private and public sectors, such as family caregivers, older adults and persons with disabilities, health care and Long Term Support Services (LTSS) providers, employers, relevant industries, state and local officials, and others on an advisory council to advise and make recommendations. The strategy would identify specific actions that government, communities, providers, employers, and others can take to recognize and support family caregivers.

Harper Comments on Iran Deal

Issues: Congressional Issues, Defense & Security

Instead of making the world less dangerous, this ‘deal’ emboldens Iran – the world’s largest sponsor of terror – by helping stabilize and legitimize its regime as it spreads even more violence and instability in the region. I believe that instead of stopping the spread of nuclear weapons in the Middle East, this deal is likely to fuel a nuclear arms race around the world.
